  How many words?

How many words does the average non-native learner need to study at an English-speaking university?

7,000 - 10,000 (?)

Naturally, it depends on what you study. If you take an ordinary course, together with native speakers, you obviously need a much larger vocabulary than if you take a special language course for foreigners. As a general rule, we would not advise anyone to study at an English-speaking university unless they score over 70/120 on the ForumEducation level 2 test, and preferably 90/120.

It is our experience that Swedish students, at Swedish universities, with an average vocabulary of less than 6,000 words, read English texts too slowly and understand less than they, themselves, think.
